Bengaluru To Mangaluru Train: The South Western Railway (SWR) has extended the cancellation of day train services between Bengaluru and Mangaluru/Karwar till December 16. The move comes as Railway authorities require more time to complete electrification work on the Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Road Ghat section of the Hassan–Mangaluru line.
In a notification, the Principal Chief Operations Manager of SWR, Hubballi, said the Railway Ministry has approved an extension of line blocks for four hours daily between 2 November and 15 December. These blocks are necessary to finish railway electrification (RE) works along the stretch.

Delay In Electrification Work
The electrification project, covering a 55 km stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road, had initially been scheduled for completion by November 1. However, progress was slowed by landslides in June and August during heavy monsoon rains.
According to officials, work was underway on a 32 km stretch between Donigal and Shiribagilu after day trains were first cancelled for 154 days starting 31 May. However, frequent landslips meant line blocks were diverted to clear debris, delaying the RE work. Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES), which is executing the project, requested additional time to complete the remaining sections.
Passenger groups have expressed disappointment over the extended cancellations. Many had already faced inconvenience during the earlier 154-day suspension of services. They have urged authorities to speed up the work and restore the trains at the earliest.
