Covid Cases In Bengaluru: Covid-19 was spreading slowly in Bengaluru. A statement issued by the health department on Friday said 35 active Covid-19 cases were reported in Karnataka so far, 32 were from Bengaluru.

A nine-month-old baby boy has tested positive for Covid-19 in Bengaluru, health department officials said on Friday. They said a gradual rise in cases has been observed over the past 20 days.

Harsh Gupta, principal secretary of the Health & Family Welfare department, said the baby tested positive via a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on May 22.

"The patient is stable and is currently admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital in Kalasipalya, Bengaluru," he said.

According to health department sources, the baby is from Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district and was initially admitted to a private hospital. No Covid-related deaths have been reported.

'gradual increase in cases has Been Observed Over The Last 20 Days'

"Although the situation is well under control, a gradual increase in cases has been observed over the last 20 days. It is therefore appropriate that the public proactively comply with Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour (CAB)," the health department advisory stated.

The advisory further recommended that pregnant women, children, immunocompromised individuals, and those with comorbidities wear face masks when visiting crowded places.

Individuals with symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) are advised to get tested for Covid-19 promptly, for timely treatment and to prevent further spread, officials added.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appealed to the Central government to take precautionary measures against the rise of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Speaking to media persons, Siddaramaiah, citing the rise in Covid-19 cases in countries like Singapore and Hong Kong, said that the Central government has not taken steps to test travellers arriving from abroad.
