Bengaluru Metro Project Update: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has reportedly informed the Karnataka government that the metro line between Bengaluru and Hosur is technically not feasible. The remarks from the metro authority have ended the possibility of South India's first interstate metro line. Tamil Nadu had proposed a metro line between the two key cities to boost the connectivity and financial activities between the two states. However, after studying the ongoing Namma Metro's expansion plans and proposed line, the BMRCL stated that the ambitious metro line will not be technically feasible.
The BMRCL has been preparing feasibility reports for the proposed expansion plans and new lines after the centre asked the authority to expand the city's metro network to 470 km to boost the regional connectivity. Apart from this, the BMRCL also informed the state government that the metro line between Bengaluru and Hosur will use different electrical power systems, reported the Deccan Herald.

The officials stated that the proposed metro line could not be integrated into the Namma Metro, adding that the final decision will be taken by the state government. “Building a continuous line from Bommasandra to Hosur is not technically feasible. The Hosur line just cannot be integrated into our system,” a senior BMRCL official was quoted as saying by DH. “We’ve shared our opinion with the state government, which will take the final decision,” he added.

Earlier, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) stated that a 25 kV AC overhead traction can be used to connect the two cities. However, several Karnataka politicians claimed that the proposed metro line will benefit Hosur more than the capital city of Karnataka. The BMRCL stated that the draft reports on the metro routes have been prepared and is likely to be finalised by the end of October.
