While reacting to the viral videos of criminals using mobile phones inside Bengaluru Central Jail, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday warned the jail authorities of strict action and sought a detailed report from Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) B Dayananda. The home minister emphasised that the prisoners using phones was not "tolerable", further directing the authorities to work properly. Earlier on Saturday, a video of several notorious prisoners, including an ISIS recruiter and a serial rapist-killer of using phones surfaced on the social media sites, leading to the backlash from the netizens.
“We have appointed B Dayananda as the head (of Prisons). He was on leave yesterday, but I have spoken to him. I have told him that this is happening repeatedly; whoever is responsible for this, immediate action needs to be taken against them, and a report should be submitted. But I will not tolerate this nonsense. Enough is enough,” the home minister told reporters.
Dayananda was appointed as the chief of prisons after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory parade stampede that killed at least 11 supporters. While acknowledging that there was a shortage of staff, Parameshwara asserted that the reason could not be used as an excused. The home minister further stated that he will call a meeting to discuss the possible lapses and the further strategy.
“Such things shouldn't happen. Sometimes they say they are short on staff, but that's not an excuse. You should do your work properly. If you're using this as an excuse and giving mobile phones and TVs to them, then it can't be called a jail anymore. I will call a meeting of police officers and will discuss what the lapses are,” the minister added.

In the viral video, the prisoners Zuhaib Hameed Shakeel Manna, an alleged ISIS recruiter, was seen using a phone and watching television. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also assured a strong case into the matter.
