Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited has announced that the first phase of the Blue Line of Namma Metro, linking Central Silk Board to KR Pura, will become operational around mid-2026. The 18 km stretch route runs along Outer Ring Road (ORR) and passes through one of the city’s main IT areas.
BMRCL MD Maheshwar Rao on Friday exuded confidence of meeting the timeline, saying, "We should be able to start the service around June next year. Let us see. It may slip by 2-3 months. Trains will come, and depending on the availability of labour, we will speed up the work. We are hopeful of opening the line in the June-Sept window."
Rao was speaking at the launch of ‘Stamp: Nudging Commuter Behaviour,’ a program to encourage more people to use public transport. The event was held by the Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA), along with Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) and WRI India.
Giving an update on the Yellow Line (RV Road to Bommasandra), which connects Electronics City, Rao said that BMRCL is aiming to start operations by the end of May, as earlier mentioned by Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
"We already have two train sets. Most of the tests are over. I think we'll be able to finish or get approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety by the first week of May. But the other part is that we require at least three trains so that you can make headway," he said.

The official said that when the Yellow Line first starts, it will be able to carry about 5,400 passengers per hour, which could help remove around 2,000 vehicles from the roads. In the beginning, only three train sets will be running, and trains will stop at just five stations. He also mentioned that over the next year and a half, 15 train sets will be added, and trains will run every 5 to 6 minutes at all stations on the line.
