Bengaluru Namma Metro Yellow Line: After several delays, Bengaluru's much-anticipated Yellow Line (RV Road to Bommasandra), which connects to Electronics City, a hub for major companies like Infosys and Biocon—is set to take a significant step forward. The first train of the Yellow Line will be dispatched to Bengaluru on January 6, 2025.
Tejasvi Surya, the Member of Parliament for Bengaluru South, announced that, "The first train will be sent to Bengaluru on January 6. Titagarh Rail Systems, the manufacturer, has committed to delivering the second train by the end of January or early February, with the third train expected by April. Following this, they plan to deliver one train per month, gradually increasing to two per month by September," he said.
Surya also revealed that he has requested the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs to visit the manufacturing plant in Kolkata on January 6 to flag off the trains to Bengaluru. "I will be present at the event in Kolkata to ensure that the process moves forward swiftly," he added.
The Yellow Line project has faced significant delays, primarily due to a shortage of trains. "The repeated delays in the launch of the Yellow Line have been frustrating for all involved. Over the past months, I've been in regular contact with Titagarh Rail Systems to speed up production. We’ve worked through many challenges, such as securing visas for engineers. Titagarh has even set up a dedicated line to manufacture trains for the Bengaluru Metro," Surya explained.
The Bengaluru South MP also urged the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to expedite the process of securing necessary safety approvals from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to prevent any further delays.
"I'm as frustrated as everyone else with the setbacks, but rest assured, the Yellow Line will be operational soon. I’m committed to ensuring this project gets off the ground," Surya assured.
BMRCL officials confirmed that the Yellow Line's initial operations will begin with three trains, running every 30 minutes. As more trains are delivered, the frequency will gradually improve.
The 19-kilometre Yellow Line, which was initially expected to open in December 2021, has encountered repeated setbacks. While civil work is complete, train procurement delays—stemming from supply chain issues, the ‘Make in India’ production requirements, COVID-19 disruptions, and other challenges—have hindered the line’s full operation.
