Bengaluru- Mumbai Train: The Union Ministry of Railways has approved a new superfast train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai, a demand that had been pending for nearly three decades. The announcement was made on Saturday by BJP leader and Bengaluru South MP, Tejasvi Surya.

Tejasvi Surya stated that despite the importance of both cities as economic hubs, rail connectivity between them had remained limited. Until now, only the Udyan Express linked Bengaluru and Mumbai, taking more than 24 hours to complete the journey.

Quoting Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Surya’s office said that capacity expansion at major stations in the two cities had created the opportunity to introduce this new service. The superfast train is expected to provide a quicker, more convenient and affordable option for lakhs of passengers.

Bengaluru- Mumbai Train: Why The New Service Matters

- For 30 years, Bengaluru and Mumbai were connected by just one train – the Udyan Express.

- The Udyan Express journey takes over 24 hours, leaving passengers with limited options.

- In 2024 alone, more than 26 lakh people travelled between the two cities by air.

- The new train aims to offer a cheaper and comfortable alternative to flights and buses.

- It is expected to reduce congestion, save travel time and improve convenience for families, business travellers and daily commuters.

Surya said he had been following up on the issue for four years, raising it in Parliament, Public Accounts Committee meetings and discussions with senior railway officials.

He added that the service would also strengthen social and economic ties between two of India’s fastest-growing metropolitan regions.

On behalf of Karnataka’s citizens, Surya expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the project. He also acknowledged the support of Minister of State for Railways, V Somanna.

The new train, once operational, is expected to significantly ease travel between the two metros, offering a much-needed boost to connectivity and passenger convenience.
