In a relief for the daily commuters on the service road of the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that a full-service road will be constructed alongside the highway, citing traffic issues. The commuters are usually forced to take lengthy and alternative routes to reach places like Bidadi, Channapatna, and Maddur due to absence of a continuous service road due to presence of railway tracks.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru highway was constructed to reduce the time travel between the two cities and to reduce the heavy traffic congestion. However, many of the residents of the nearby areas are not able to use the highway because of the presence of railway lines and other obstacles. The commuters are forced to take the routes that are complicated and the travel time is also increased.
However, the NHAI has decided to solve the issue by providing the residents a continuous service road along the highway. The highway authority has decided to build railway-over bridges where the service road is discontinued due to railway tracks. NHAI stated that the commuters will be able to reach Mysuru directly without taking any deviation.
It further stated that the time taken by the commuters will be reduced and they will no longer be facing heavy traffic congestion. The highway authority has conducted a survey to asses the feasibility of construction of underpasses, bridges, and other structures. NHAI has asserted that while it may take a while to complete all the construction works, it will be extremely beneficial for the residents.
“NHAI has taken up works on fixing complaints at the entry and exit points of the Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled highway. Along with this, works will be taken up to build the incomplete service road along the main carriage,” a regional officer was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express. The lack of service roads was one of the complaints since the road was opened for traffic in March 2023. The villagers on both of the sides of the highway had complained about the issues related to the incomplete service roads.
