Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: Karnataka Home Ministry G Parameshwara on Monday announced that the state government has approved a feasibility report for the proposed extension of metro lines from Bengaluru to Tumakuru. The home ministry stated that the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had awarded the feasibility study to a Hyderabad-based company, which has submitted its report to the government. Earlier last month, the BMRCL had stated that the expansion of metro services will provide convenience to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.

While addressing the reporters in Tumakuru, the home minister stated that the expansion plan is likely to be carried out in the upcoming months. “Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was directed to carry out the study. BMRCL invited tenders at a cost of Rs 3 crore and awarded the feasibility study to a Hyderabad-based company. The company has submitted its report to the Government,” Parameshwara was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Apart from providing relief to the commuters, the expansion is also likely to boost the financial activities in the region. Earlier in the 2024-25 budget, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed the project to extend the metro services from Madavara to Tumakuru.

The state government has directed the BMRCL to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model after approving the feasibility report. Earlier on September 29, the BMRCL stated that the much-awaited Blue Line of the Namma Metro is likely to begin operation in 2027. The Blue Line will connect Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), two of the key areas of Bengaluru.
