Bengaluru News:  With the aim to boost city-wide connectivity and offer a faster mode of transport, the Bengaluru Namma Metro Phase 2 project is currently undergoing a major upgrade. The addition of 72.1 km of track and 62 new stations in the existing metro network is expected to reduce traffic snarls and travel time.

Phase 2 of the Namma Metro project marks a significant milestone in the development of the city’s public transport system. The upgrade aims to connect the metro network with other modes of transportation to offer commuters a seamless change between modes of transport.

Details About Namma Metro Phase 2 Expansion

The Bengaluru Namma Metro Phase 2 is undergoing a major upgrade to add 72.1 km of additional track and include 62 new stations. The Phase 2 expansion includes two new metro lines, the Yellow and Pink lines and an extension of the existing Purple and Green lines, as reported by Times Property.

Key areas of Bengaluru, such as Whitefield, JP Nagar, and Silk Board, which see high volumes of commuters, will benefit from the expansion. The unique part of the Phase 2 expansion is the seamless connectivity with the city’s bus services and the upcoming suburban rail system. The upgrade will allow commuters to switch between different modes of transport, cutting down travel time, and reducing congestion, cost and vehicle emissions.

Once the expansion is completed, the metro network will grow from two lines to six, offering city-wide connectivity to IT parks, educational institutions and residential zones with faster routes.

Important Sections In Phase 2 Include:

KK Puram:  It will serve as a key interchange between the Purple Line and the suburban rail.

Byappanahalli:  Currently serving as a central node, it will now connect the suburban areas of Bengaluru to central Bengaluru.

Jayanagar:  This section will enjoy connectivity with other modes of transportation and the metro network.
