Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to waive bicycle parking charges at several Metro stations. The authority stated that the decision has been taken to promote the culture of cycling in the tech city. The commuters will not be liable to pay the parking charges at the most crowded stations of the city. The BMRCL stated that the target is to reduce the traffic congestion in the key regions to improve the travel experience and air pollution. It further asserted that the metro services are being expanded to boost the regional connectivity.

While providing details, the authority stated that the parking charges will be waived off at several stations, including Mysuru Road, Byappanahalli, Madavara, Peenya Industry, JP Nagar, Ragigudda, Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, and Electronic City. It further stated that such arrangements will be made on all the corridors, adding that the passengers will get benefits, especially during the peak hours.

"Connectivity team identified these stations as the ones most frequently used by cyclists, which is why they have been chosen for free bicycle parking," a BMRCL official was quoted as saying by the Times of India. The passengers earlier had to pay Rs 1 per hour at these parking spaces, informed the authority.

Earlier on January 20, the BMRCL stated that extra trains are set to arrive on the Yellow Line in the next few months. It asserted that the arrival of extra trains will boost the frequency, providing relief to the passengers, especially during the office hours. The Yellow Line operates between RV Road and Bommasandra through 16 stations and has boosted the regional connectivity significantly.

The trains operate at intervals of 10 to 12 minutes on the Yellow Line currently. However, the operation of an extra train will reduce the waiting time to 8 to 10 minutes, offering better convenience to passengers.
