Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Tuesday received the fifth trainset for the Namma Metro's Yellow Line. The authority stated that the trainset is likely to be inducted into service in the second week of October after the necessary procedures. It further stated that its induction will provide relief to thousands of commuters by improving the frequency of train operations to almost 15 minutes. The BMRCL emphasised that the Yellow Line has significantly reduced the traffic congestion in the key areas and cut the travel time for the IT professionals.

While providing details, the authority stated that the trainset will be assembled at the depot and will undergo a 20-day testing cycle before the operation. “The trainset must undergo various kinds of tests, including system integration with signalling, telecommunications, and power supply networks,” a senior BMRCL official was quoted as saying by The Hindu. The authority further stated that the operation of the fifth train will provide relief to the commuters by improving the frequency.

The 18.82-kilometer-long Yellow Line between RV Road and Bommasandra was inaugurated on August 10 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While the metro line improved the travel experience for the IT professionals, they complained of poor frequency, especially during the morning hours. Only three trains were available during the launch, forcing the passengers to wait at least 25 minutes during the peak hours.

The induction of the fourth trainset in the first week of September reduced the wait time to 19 minutes; however, the fifth trainset is likely to reduce it by a further 15 minutes. Several large IT firms in the Electronic City, including Infosys, have asked their employees to utilise the metro services to minimise the inconveniences. The improved frequency will also improve the overall ridership on the Yellow Line, especially during the peak hours.
