Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: Amid an ongoing debate over ownership of 45 acres of land in the Hebbal region, several members of parliament (MPs) and industry leaders have urged the Karnataka government to transfer the land to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). In a letter to the authorities, the public representatives stated that the land must be transferred to the Namma metro, adding that the property is crucial for the upcoming projects of the metro authority.

Bangalore South MP LS Tejasvi Surya, in a letter to M Maheshwar Rao (BBMP and Namma Metro chief), stated that the land should be allotted to the Namma Metro, as its projects will reduce the traffic congestion in the city and will also cut the travel time significantly. "Hebbal is one of Bengaluru's most critical traffic and transit nodes. This location experiences daily congestion and severe traffic bottlenecks, affecting thousands of commuters,” Surya stated in his letter.

"By integrating metro services with BMTC buses, airport shuttles, taxis, autos, and last-mile connectivity, this hub will significantly ease traffic congestion in North Bengaluru,” Surya added. Apart from this, Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan also stated that the land should be allotted to the BMRCL, adding that public transport should be prioritised over private interests.

"With three metro lines and a suburban rail station planned, this land is key to Bengaluru’s transit future. The center has approved the proposal, and the BMRCL is ready to pay Rs 551.15 crore. The Karnataka government must prioritise public transport over private interests,” Mohan stated in a post on X.

This was the third meeting when the authority could not decide whether the land would be transferred to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) for their projects.
