Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has assured that the metro network will be expanded significantly in the upcoming years. While speaking at an event, BMRCL Managing Director J Ravishankar stated that the metro network will expand from 96 km to 175 km by the end of 2027, adding that the Namma metro will operate on 225 km by 2030. He also stated that the much-awaited Blue Line will be operational by 2027, providing major relief to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion.

While providing details, Ravishankar stated that the expansion of metro services will improve the connectivity, adding that the BMRCL is planning to connect all the major parts of the city. “Namma Metro started in 2011 with a network of just 6.7 km. With Yellow Line (RV Road - Bommasandra) inaugurated in August 2025, we now operate 96 km. Next year, Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara - Nagawara), 7.5 km elevated and 13.5 km underground-about 21 km-will become operational. By the end of 2027, the Blue Line which connects Bengaluru airport will be ready,” Ravishankar was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol.

“By 2027, we will have roughly 175 km of Metro. Bengaluru, unfortunately, faces severe traffic congestion. Metro will go a long way in easing this, along with planned suburban railway projects,” the BMRCL MD added. He emphasised that the authority is likely to announce multiple changes in the upcoming weeks to improve the travel experience of the commuters.

Earlier on November 30, the authority announced that Namma Metro will now begin operations earlier on the Yellow Line every Monday, with the first trains scheduled at 5.05 AM and 5.35 AM. The BMRCL revised the timetable after passengers staged a protest at RV Road station on November 17, complaining about the late start of services on this corridor.
