Namma Metro Update: BJP leader and Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking availability of Namma Metro's Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) report on public platforms. Surya stated that the authority has not made the reports public even after several requests from the opposition and concerned civil societies. Surya stated that the ridership of Namma Metro has drastically fallen due to the price hike, adding that the middle class of the city has stopped using the public transport. However, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) stated that the ridership is likely to improve in the upcoming months.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Surya claimed that Bengaluru Metro is the most expensive in the whole country, adding that normal people are not able to afford the tickets. "It is outrageous that the BMRCL and the Karnataka government continue to keep the FFC report secret — a report that recommended a steep 130% hike in metro fares," Surya stated on X.

"The committee undertook foreign visits on public money, made sweeping recommendations, and yet, its findings are being kept away from the very people it affects. Since this fare hike, ridership has dropped significantly. Bengaluru Metro is now the most expensive in India, unaffordable for many middle-class commuters," the BJP leader added.

He further stated that the authority is not making the reports public even after receiving several RTI applications. "Despite repeated requests over three months, and even after RTI applications, the report remains under wraps. There is no national security concern here. Then why the secrecy?" Surya asked.

However, the BMRCL stated that operation on the much-awaited Yellow Line will start in August, adding that the ridership is likely to improve significantly. The authority further stated that the metro ride prices were increased to carry out the expansion and maintenance works.
