Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has reportedly informed that the newly-launched Yellow line has witnessed a daily ridership of almost 60,000. The authority stated that the stretch between RV Road and Bommasandra has received overwhelming support despite the low frequency. It also affirmed that the ridership will significantly improve in the upcoming months after number of trains will increase on the route. The authority also stated that the metro line has provided relief to the thousands of daily commuters, especially IT professionals by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.
While providing details, the officials stated that initially the BMRCL expected a low ridership due to less number of trains; however, the yellow line has received tremendous support. “Due to the low frequency, we hadn’t expected such high ridership. After the initial rush, we had expected it to drop down to around half, at 30,000. But commuters seem unfazed by the low frequency. This just goes to show that consumer behaviour can’t always be predicted,” a senior official was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald.

The officials further stated that the ridership is high during the weekdays as the IT professionals mostly opt for the metro routes. They further stated that the commuters are mostly utilising the metro services during the evening services. “The line is mainly being used by working professionals travelling to Electronics City, Bommasandra and all the places in between. While in the mornings, they might opt for cabs, we’re seeing that towards the evening, people are preferring the metro,” the official added.
Earlier last month, the authority stated that the metro route has significantly boosted the regional connectivity, adding that the Pink line will also provide relief to the commuters.
