Bengaluru Metro Update: Bengaluru Metro's long-awaited Yellow Line, which will connect RV Road to Bommasandra and link to the tech hub of Electronics City, is expected to commence operations by May 2025. This announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar on March 4 during a state assembly session in response to a question from Bommanahalli MLA M Satish Reddy.
Bengaluru Metro Pink Line To Be Operational By December 2025
The Yellow Line spans 19.1 km and while its launch is on the horizon, the status of another line, the Pink Line, was also addressed. Shivakumar confirmed that the 7.5 km elevated section of the Pink Line, stretching from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, will be operational by December 2025, with the 13.7 km underground segment expected to open by December 2026.
The Money Control report cited Sources as stating that the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has been experiencing a shortage of rolling stock, which has contributed to delays in the Yellow Line project. According to reports, BMRCL plans to start operations with three trains running at a 30-minute frequency. An official mentioned, “We hope to receive the third train by April, followed by the fourth, allowing us to commence services.”
Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line Trial Run
Trial runs for the Yellow Line began on March 7, 2024 and in February 2025, AM Chowdhary, Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (South Circle), inspected two CRRC Nanjing Puzhen trains—one imported from China and the other assembled in India by Titagarh Rail Systems.
Originally, the Yellow Line was slated to begin operations in December 2021. However, delays in coach delivery were primarily due to the Indo-China border standoff in June 2020, which complicated local manufacturing efforts. The subsequent challenges, including COVID-19 disruptions and trade restrictions, further hindered progress. Eventually, CRRC partnered with Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail to fulfil local production requirements and supply the necessary coaches.
