DK Shivakumar Reveals Location For Bengaluru’s Second Airport
Speaking at Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025 on November 18, Shivakumar announced that the government is considering a location in South Bengaluru for the city’s second international airport. This move follows preliminary work conducted earlier this year, as the Karnataka government had finalised three locations for the proposed airport in March 2025.
THESE Three Sites Under Consideration
Earlier in March 2025, the Karnataka government finalised three locations for Bengaluru’s second airport, including two on Kanakapura Road near Kaggalipura and Harohalli, and one on Kunigal Road in the north.
Preliminary Work Underway
Karnataka's Infrastructure Development and Industries Minister M B Patil stated that the government has started the preliminary work for the new airport, as a rule prevents the construction of a new international airport within 150 km of the current Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) until 2033.
The groundwork has been initiated to ensure that the new airport is ready by that year, as projects of this scale take at least five or six years to complete.
