Karnataka News:The Karnataka government is preparing to develop a major new technology hub on the outskirts of Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025. He said the state aims to create a large IT City near Bidadi as part of its wider plan to strengthen Bengaluru’s position as India’s technology capital.

Shivakumar said the project will cover around 9,000 acres and include residential layouts for NRIs along with facilities for international companies. “We are developing residential layouts for NRIs, a world-class city near Bidadi on 9,000 acres… We are building an international complex to house all international business houses,” he said, according to a PTI report.

He added that the state remains focused on supporting investors and promoting a business-friendly environment. “We will extend all possible help to them in the ease of doing business. A new IT city has been planned in Greater Bengaluru,” he said. Shivakumar also emphasised Bengaluru’s appeal, saying no other city can match its weather and culture.

Speaking separately to reporters, the Deputy CM noted that interest from global investors remains high. “Leaders from several countries keep meeting me,” he told ANI. “They are all excited about investing in Bengaluru and we are supporting their investments in every way possible.”

The planned IT City, located roughly 30 km from Bengaluru, comes as Gujarat’s GIFT City is emerging as a major financial and technology hub with India’s first International Financial Services Centre.

Alongside the new hub, Karnataka has announced large-scale infrastructure spending aimed at modernising Bengaluru. Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru Development, said the government is investing about Rs 1 lakh crore in long-term projects. These include a 40 km twin-tunnel network, a double-decker metro line, an elevated road corridor, new buffer roads and the 74 km Bengaluru Business Corridor.

The state is also planning a second airport for Bengaluru and a dedicated secretariat for NRIs. Shivakumar said the city’s progress depends on strong talent and innovation. “The local talent, innovation, technology and start-ups will take Karnataka in a new direction if encouraged properly,” he said.
