Bengaluru News: A woman doctor from Bengaluru has lodged a complaint with the Sanjay Nagar police, accusing a co-passenger of sexually harassing her while travelling on a KSRTC bus from Doddaballapur.

According to a Deccan Herald report, police identified the accused as Firoz Khan, 32, a salesperson residing in RT Nagar. The incident took place on October 2 around 6 PM after the complainant boarded the bus.

According to police, when the vehicle neared Esteem Mall, Khan, who was seated beside the woman, allegedly touched her inappropriately. The doctor immediately alerted the driver and called her brother, who then contacted the police helpline 112.

Officers reached the location and detained the accused. He was later booked under Section 354 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault or use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty. Police confirmed that Khan was released on station bail and that further investigation is underway.

In separate news, Bengaluru motorists can now check live traffic signal countdowns on their phones, thanks to a new feature introduced by city traffic police in collaboration with the navigation app Mappls. This first-of-its-kind feature in India is currently active at 169 junctions equipped with Vehicle Actuated Control (VAC) signals that use AI to adjust timings based on traffic flow. The same timer displayed on signal poles now appears within the Mappls app, helping drivers estimate wait times and plan better routes.

Officials said the feature aims to make waiting periods at signals more predictable and reduce impatience among drivers. However, it functions only when signals are in VAC mode, not when manually operated. More junctions are expected to be integrated soon. Experts have praised the move but emphasised the need for synchronising signals across major roads like MG Road to ensure smoother, coordinated traffic movement across the city.
