Bengaluru Rains: Amid waterlogging in several key areas of Bengaluru after heavy rainfall, both Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) got involved in a blame game after the commuters complained of traffic congestion in these areas. The BBMP officials on Wednesday stated that the poor management from the BMRCL has led to the issue in several areas, such as Hosur Road. Earlier on Wednesday, the officials had stated that the flooding had led to the closure of the stretch between Silk Board and Rupena Agrahara.

Apart from this, the officials also stated that the elevated expressway between Central Silk Board Junction and Electronics City will also remain closed for the next few days due to the waterlogging. The closure of the expressway has resulted in long traffic congestion in multiple areas, as the expressway is used by thousands of the daily commuters and IT employees on a daily basis. While addressing the issue, former Bengaluru mayor BN Manjunath Reddy stated that the ongoing metro construction at Silk Board Junction has caused the waterlogging.

“BMRCL engineers should be held accountable for the mess at Silk Board. A pillar was erected at the point where water from BTM Layout joins major stormwater drains, blocking the flow. This obstruction caused flooding in Dollars Colony, KAS Officers’ Colony, and Silk Board quarters," Reddy was quoted as saying by the Times of India. Apart from this, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated that the metro construction has also blocked drainage on the Madiwala side, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion.

“They built a pillar blocking the natural flow of water. Instructions have been issued for immediate remedial action," Reddy was quoted as saying by TOI. The heavy rainfall in Bengaluru for the past few days has led to waterlogging and power outages, leading to inconveniences for the residents.
