Bengaluru is set to introduce a dedicated auto service, Sakhi, for women passengers and drivers. The platform will officially begin operations from February 14, with an aim to offer safer and more comfortable travel options for female travellers across the city. The initiative will also help reduce the safety concerns that many women face while using conventional rides such as taxis and autos.

Sakhi Autos

The platform operates on a ride-hailing model used by other aggregators like Ola and Uber. However, the services are managed by women drivers. The trial run of the platform was conducted in January and completed with 17 trips within a week. 

The platform was founded by entrepreneur Krishnavi Parekh, whodrew ond her personal travel experiences while studying and working in Mumbai. Parekh observed that female travellers often feel uncomfortable travelling alone, especially during late hours. According to Parekh, the platform is created to provide a safer and more reliable transport alternative tailored to women’s needs.

The services will run for all seven days of the week from 6 am in the morning to midnight. Moreover, the company has indicated that services may extend to 24-hour operations depending on the demand. One unique feature of the platform is that it will not follow any price surge. The minimum fare is set at Rs 50 for the first two kilometres, while Rs 20 will be charged for each additional kilometre.

How Can You Book Rides Through The App?

Currently, the platform has no dedicated mobile application.

If you want to book a ride through this application, then you will have to visit their official website, ride.sakhiwomen.in or contact 6361933364 via WhatsApp. The dedicated mobile application is expected to be developed later, which will be compatible with both Android and iOS. 

The application has currently onboarded 50 female drivers aged between 21 and 40 years, all of whom have prior driving experience. All the drivers are currently receiving a full payment of their salaries, but a licensing model may be introduced later.
