Bengaluru Bike Taxi Ban: Bengaluru residents expressed their frustration on social media about the traffic congestion in the city, days after a ban was imposed on bike taxis in the city. They shared images on X (formerly Twitter) of the choked roads, reporting about the heavy traffic congestion in the city.

In their posts, the users wrote about the increased fare, low availability of taxis, tip demands, and traffic disruptions. The X posts highlighted how these issues have worsened the traffic on roads by nearly five times.

The Karnataka High Court banned app-based bike taxis, stating that the bike taxi operations by app-based aggregators are illegal.

Bengaluru Locals' Response To Ban On Social Media

The Bengaluru residents are unhappy with the Karnataka High Court's ban on app-based bike and taxi services. The locals expressed their frustration on X, arguing that the ban on bikes and taxis has added more private vehicles on the road, worsening the traffic situation in the city. They posted that Bengaluru’s traffic has been multiplied by 4 to 5 times, as a majority of the commuters are taking out their own vehicles.

An X user wrote, “Thanks to the bike taxi ban, had to take an auto. Not even 8 AM, and Bengaluru is choked already. Another user wrote, “Give me walkable shortest paths to the bus stops, and bike lanes, please. This is no way to create cities.”

The users mentioned in their posts that there was a surge of personal vehicles and spike in auto and cab fares, metro expansion was behind schedule, and BMTC buses were overcrowded. The residents noted an increase in daily fare by Rs 10-70 after the bike taxi ban.

The Bike taxi ban is exacerbating the traffic issues, a user wrote. The local residents are frustrated with the prevailing traffic congestion and want the government to take action.
