Bengaluru–Vijayawada Expressway: A high-speed corridor to boost connectivity in South India is taking shape and will join Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Stretching over 518 kilometres, the Bengaluru–Vijayawada Expressway is a major infrastructure project and aims to significantly cut travel time between the two cities, Bengaluru and Vijayawada. Bengaluru–Vijayawada Expressway will feature four to six lanes, and is being built as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana (Phase II). It is a partially access-controlled route designed to handle speeds of up to 120 km/h. Once completed, it is expected to greatly enhance connectivity in South India and support economic activity across both states.
The project combines both greenfield development (completely new roads) and brownfield upgrades (expansion or improvement of existing roads). Around 64 per cent of the expressway will be newly built, with the greenfield section running from Kodikonda to Addanki. The remaining 36 per cent involves upgrading current road infrastructure.
The proposed corridor will also pass close to Kadapa, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the BKV Expressway (Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Expressway).
