Maharashtra Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for hot and humid conditions across several states, warning residents to brace for rising temperatures and increasing discomfort. On Monday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts—Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, cautioning of hot and humid weather likely to persist for the next three days. The forecast follows last week’s unseasonal rains across parts of Maharashtra, as the state now shifts into full-blown summer mode.
Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Meteorologists have predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius across Maharashtra till April 11, making daily life increasingly challenging, especially in coastal and low-lying areas.
Delhi Weather
The national capital is also feeling the summer pinch. On Monday, Delhi saw its minimum temperature settle at 20.2 degrees Celsius , with maximum temperatures expected to soar up to 41 degrees Celsius . The IMD has issued a yellow warning for a heatwave, advising people to take necessary precautions and avoid exposure to the afternoon sun.
Madhya Pradesh experienced its first bout of summer heatwaves on Monday. The IMD’s yellow alert spans key regions such as Gwalior, Chambal, Sheopur, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Datia, Bhind, Morena, as well as Neemuch and Mandsaur in western MP.
“Parts of the Gwalior and Chambal region are expected to see heatwaves,” said Divya E Surendran, Forecast In-charge of IMD’s Madhya Pradesh unit, in a statement to PTI. Residents in these areas are urged to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours.
Rajasthan Weather
The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur on Monday stated that a severe heatwave has begun in the state and is expected to continue for the upcoming few days. The weather department stated that while every district of the state is facing scorching heat, Barmer and Jaisalmer have emerged as the hottest regions. The weather department stated that these regions are expected to witness further rises in temperature, urging the residents to limit their outings.
While providing details, the weather department stated that the maximum temperature in Barmer was recorded at 45.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 6.8 degrees Celsius more than the seasonal average. It further stated that the recorded temperature in Barmer was the highest since 1998, when the maximum temperature touched 45.2 degrees Celsius on April 3.
