In a major bid, the Bengaluru Police have cracked the case of a former soldier’s death in March, uncovering a suspected conspiracy involving his wife and her alleged lover. Both accused have been detained and are expected to be formally arrested after further investigation.

What The Investigation Revealed

Police officials believe that the deceased, Sandeep, was allegedly murdered by his wife, Suma (40), and her partner, Pundalik Dombar (26), to end his life as the couple wanted to lead their lives with each other. The investigators also suspect a financial angle and claim the wife was allegedly targeting a Rs 2 crore insurance payout.

The couple has allegedly admitted their role in the killing in police custody, though their formal arrests are yet to be made. Dombar, who was allegedly a business partner in a hotel venture with the victim, was previously a part of the same business. After the business failed, he became a driver for the deceased's family, and this gave him ample opportunity to allegedly carry on an affair with the victim's wife, police said.

On March 13, Sandeep allegedly met with a small bike accident at Ghataprabha, in Gokak taluka, and was admitted for treatment. Though he showed early signs of recovery, he allegedly died in the hospital on March 15, which came as a shock to his relatives and investigating officials.

Alleged Hospital Conspiracy

The police suspect the murder was executed inside the hospital, with a report claiming that a pesticide was given through the saline with the help of a laboratory assistant.

According to officials, the accused wanted to make it appear as a medical complication from the accident.

The investigation picked up pace after evidence of the wife's alleged extramarital affair emerged, and she and her alleged partner were extensively interrogated. The couple eventually spilt the entire alleged conspiracy after being in police custody for a while.

The authorities have also been granted permission to exhume the deceased's body to conduct a post-mortem to confirm the exact cause of death and build more evidence against the accused. The police have further stated that more arrests might be made in the future as the investigation is underway.
