Bengaluru News: A 54-year-old homemaker has reported the theft of gold and diamond jewellery valued at 145 grams from her bank locker at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Dollars Colony, Bengaluru. The incident was brought to light when Bindu CD failed to receive satisfactory answers from bank officials despite her numerous complaints and follow-ups.

Bindu, who has maintained a savings account and locker at the SBI branch since December 2022, last checked her locker in November 2024, confirming that all her valuables were secure. However, on March 28, 2025, when she visited the locker again, she discovered that her gold and diamond jewellery was missing, as reported by The Hindu report.

Upon reporting the loss to bank officials, Bindu reportedly met with indifference. They assured her that no unauthorised access to the locker had occurred, which left her feeling frustrated. Undeterred, she escalated her complaint to SBI's customer service and even contacted the chief vigilance officer, but received little support. Instead, she was advised to "check at home" for her missing items, which only added to her distress.

In light of the bank's lack of cooperation, Bindu decided to take further action and approached the Sadashivanagar police. Following her formal complaint, the police registered a case against unnamed SBI officials under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses theft in dwellings, transport or places of worship.

The police have now commenced an investigation into the incident. They plan to question bank staff and review CCTV footage and access logs to identify any potential breaches.
