Bengaluru Business Corridor: The Karnataka cabinet has approved the 117-km-long Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project in Bengaluru to decongest the infamous traffic. The cabinet has approved the long-pending project under a new name, the Bengaluru Business Corridor.
The corridor project will be executed by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), and it is anticipated to be completed within two years. The project is expected to reduce the traffic in the city by 40 per cent.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, while announcing the development, said that the move would be a ‘historic step’ towards decongesting the city.

"Bengaluru is choking. We want the traffic to come down. I know about 1,900 families will be affected, but the government is offering more than what they are expecting as compensation. It's one of the biggest decisions of the Karnataka government," he said.
Shivakumar, quoting the government’s anticipations, said that the project will reduce the traffic by 40 per cent.
The project, which was earlier expected to cost 27,000 crore, will now be built at a comparatively lower cost of 10,000 crore, as farmers are now opting for land-based compensation rather than cash payment.
Bengaluru Business Corridor: Key Features
The Bengaluru Business Corridor under the new design will feature an eight-lane expressway, reserved metro space, cycling lanes, pedestrian lanes and service lanes.
The corridor will span a total width of 65 metres. Of these, 41 metres has been allocated for the eight-lane expressway and future Metro line.
Each side of the expressway will feature a nine-metre-wide service road with two lanes and a service road, along with three-metre-wide pavements for pedestrians.
