Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, currently on his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam's Morigaon district, hit a roadblock when authorities prevented him from holding a street corner meeting and a foot march. The District Magistrate's office pointed to "intelligence inputs" suggesting a potential threat to "peace and tranquillity" as the reason for denying permission for Rahul Gandhi's planned events.
This situation unfolded on the same day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was slated to lead the 'pran pratishtha' ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which is more than 1,200 km away.
".. miscreants may indulge in anti-social activities by taking advantage of two major events on the same day", the District Magistrate said while referring to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha and Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.'
Why was @RahulGandhi ji stopped from visiting the Batadrava Than temple in Assam today? Is only one man in India allowed to visit temples? If one of the most prominent leaders of the country can be stopped, what discrimination must the common man be facing in BJP ruled states!… pic.twitter.com/Db8w9s8NfW

"With deepest concern for the safety and security of Rahul Gandhiji... along with our responsibility to avert any possible law and order disruption... we would like you to refrain from holding the proposed street corner meeting... we would like to request you to not stop his vehicle during the roadshow," the officer said as quoted by NDTV.
This comes amid the claims raised by Rahul Gandhi that police have stopped him from visiting the Batadrava Satra Temple in Nagaon district.
"We want to visit the temple. What crime have I committed that I cannot visit the temple?" he said while questioning the prohibition imposed by the Assam Police.
Earlier, the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma had urged the Congress leader to reconsider the route of his planned Yatra, raising concern over its overlap with the Pran Pratishtha processions in the district.
"I urge Rahul Gandhi not to create a notion there is a competition between Ram Temple and Batadrava Satra because TV channels will be flashing Ram Temple 'pran pratishtha' ceremony and his visiting Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva's birthplace. This won't be good for Assam.
