In a special note on Karpoori Thakur’s birth anniversary, PM Modi hailed the former’s pursuit of social justice which has impacted crores of people. “Social justice was most dear to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji. His political journey was marked by monumental efforts to create a society where resources were distributed fairly, and everyone, regardless of their social standing, had access to opportunities. He wanted to address the systemic inequalities that plagued Indian society,” PM Modi wrote.

He shared many anecdotes about the socialist leader, which he heard from people who worked closely with him.

PM Modi said Thakur’s ideas are reflected in the schemes that his government has implemented over the last 10 years.  “Over the last ten years, our Government has walked on the path of Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji, reflecting in our schemes and policies that have brought transformative empowerment. I can say with confidence and pride that Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji would have been very proud of India's feat of freeing 25 crore people from the clutches of poverty in the last few years. These are people from the most backward sections of society, who were denied basic facilities nearly seven decades after freedom from colonial rule,” he said.

Calling Karpoori Thakur a true Jan Nayak, PM Modi said we lost him when he was most needed. “As a person belonging to the backward classes myself, I have much to thank Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji for. Unfortunately, we lost Karpoori Ji at a relatively young age of 64. We lost him when we needed him the most. Yet, he lives on in the heart and minds of crores of people due to his work. He was a true Jan Nayak!,” PM Modi added.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Central Government announced Bharat Ratna (posthumously) for India’s socialist movement crusader and former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur.

“It’s a matter of great pleasure that India’s highest civilian honour ‘Bharat Ratna’ has been conferred upon former Chief Minister and great socialist leader Late Karpuri Thakur ji. This is a good decision for the Central Government. The honour, bestowed on Late Karpoori Thakur ji on his 100th birth anniversary, will develop a sense of positivity among the Dalits, deprived and neglected sections. We have always been demanding to give 'Bharat Ratna' to the Late Karpoori Thakur ji. The years-old demand has been fulfilled today. Thanks to Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for this,” Kumar wrote on X(formerly Twitter).

Nitish’s praise for Modi came when speculations were rife that the JD(U) chief might rejoin the NDA camp ahead of high-stakes Lok Sabha polls. His 40-minute meeting with the Governor on Tuesday created a stir in the choppy political waters of Bihar, with psephologists assuming he might abandon the INDIA bloc before polls.
