The Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government's caste-based census report released on Monday triggered a political row in the country with Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the opposition is trying to divide the society by drawing caste lines. Amid controversies regarding the survey, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called for an all-party meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the next course of action and also present the findings of the census report.

1.The caste census report released by the Bihar government states that the state has a population of over 13 crore people, of which the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) comprise 36.01 per cent of the population, the Other Backward Classes (OBC) 27 per cent, Scheduled Castes 19.65 per cent, Scheduled Tribes 1.68 per cent, while the Upper Castes constitute 15.52 per cent of the population.
2.The data said that Yadavs, the OBC group to which Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav belongs, "is the largest and accounts for 14.27 per cent of the state's population".

3.The report further said that the Hindu community constituted 81.9 per cent of the population of Bihar, Muslims 17.7 per cent, Christians 0.05 per cent,Sikhs 0.01 per cent, Buddhists 0.08 per cent, Jains 0.0096 per cent and other religions 0.12 per cent.
4.The survey found that Kushwaha and Kurmi communities form 4.27 per cent and 2.87 per cent of the population, the caste survey said to which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar belongs.
5.Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated the entire team engaged in the work of caste-based enumeration stating that the survey not only revealed the castes but also gave information about the economic condition of everyone.
6.Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "Out of 90 secretaries of the Central Government, only 3 are OBC, who handle only 5% of India's budget! Therefore, it is important to know the caste statistics of India. 'The greater the population, the greater the rights': this is our pledge."
7.The report of the caste-based survey conducted in Bihar was released at a press conference in the state's capital Patna.
8.Responding to Bihar's caste census data, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh said that the Caste-census should be held in the entire country.
9.Bihar BJP President Samrat Choudhary said that the report is an "incomplete" one and that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reviewing and analysing the data.

10.Criticising the report Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shafiqur Rahman Barq said that the survey is an election gimmick ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
