Bihar: Crocodile Kills Teenager Who Went To Fetch ‘Gangajal’, Crowd Beats It To Death

JE News Desk: A 14-year-old boy was killed by a crocodile in Bihar’s Vaishali district. This prompted the villagers to attack the riverine beast and beat it to death on Tuesday.

A video has gone viral on social media that shows the huge reptile being pulled out of the river by a large group of men, who then proceed to beat it with sticks and rods. A team of officials from the forest department reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter after they received information about the incident.

The forest officials have informed that the detailed reason for the crocodile’s death will be ascertained after the investigation in the matter is over. They asserted that action will be taken against people found in violation of laws.

"We have received information that a crocodile has been killed. The reason is not yet known," District Forest Officer Vaishali, Amita Raj was quoted saying by ANI.

"Forest officials have reached the spot and an investigation is being done. Action will be taken against the violators for violating the Wildlife Protection Act," she said.

Further investigation is underway in the case, she added. 

However, the grandfather of the deceased boy, quoted in a NDTV report, informed that the incident started when they had gone to bathe in the Ganga and fetch ‘gangajal’ for pooja for a new bike the family had bought. When the boy was fetching water, he was attacked by the crocodile and pulled under the water. In front of the family, the crocodile tore up the boy into pieces and ate eat. By the time, they were able to get bits of the boy’s body out of water one hour later, a crowd had emerged.

This crowd of villagers then pulled the beast out of water and beat it to death.
