Bihar: Crude Oil Stolen From Barauni-Haldia Pipeline In Jamui; Locals Slam Security Arrangements

Jagran Correspondent, Jamui: In a bizarre incident, the miscreants reportedly stole crude oil in Bihar's Jamui by breaching the Barauni-Haldia crude oil pipeline. The breach of a vital petroleum asset has raised serious questions on the security arrangements, especially since similar incidents were reported earlier too. While the administration has launched multiple campaigns against the miscreants, the pipeline has been breached several times at different sites.

Multiple Incidents Raise Question

As per the locals, similar incidents were reported from the region when the miscreants successfully stole oil from the pipeline. They further stated that along with Barajor, pipelines in remote areas like Sitochak, Narganjo, and Rajla's Dhipal Hill have also been targeted. However, the state police have not been able to take any concrete action despite several incidents, leading to questions on the law and order.

Earlier on March 8, a similar case was reported near the Sitochak region, where the miscreants stole oil by installing a valve in a pipeline. While Manager Shiv Kumar Dubey filed a written complaint following the incident, no solid action was taken. Earlier in November 2025, a pipeline breach was also reported in the forests of Dhipal Hill, sending a shockwave across the administration.

How Theft Cases Are Detected?

Apart from this, six incidents of oil theft reportedly occurred near Sitochak within just four months earlier in 2020. A DGR team arrived at the site after pressure in the pipeline significantly decreased and found a 12.5-inch double-lever valve in the 18-inch-wide underground main pipeline during the probe, raising the possibility of large-scale oil theft.

The control room in Barauni receives a signal of pressure loss when crude oil is extracted from the pipeline. The relevant authorities initiate an investigation after receiving the report. However, repeated incidents of theft have raised questions on the efficiency of the security arrangements.
