Bihar Metro Expansion: Bihar is set to witness a major boost in urban transportation as the metro rail network expands to four key cities—Gaya, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur. The survey work for these metro projects has been completed, paving the way for further developments.
Among them, Gaya will have the longest metro route, spanning 36 km, while Darbhanga will have the shortest at 18.8 km. Each city will have two dedicated metro corridors, improving connectivity and easing urban commutes, as reported by Jagran.com.
Following the success of the Patna Metro, which is currently under construction, the Bihar government is keen on expanding metro services to other major cities. The Urban Development and Housing Department has received detailed reports from RITES, the railway agency responsible for conducting the metro feasibility study, Jagran.com reported.
The survey, which began in September last year, includes a feasibility report, a comprehensive mobility plan, and an alternative analysis report. Additionally, feedback from public representatives and local citizens has been incorporated, resulting in extensions to the originally proposed metro routes.

Next Steps for Bihar Metro
With survey work now complete, the Bihar government is reviewing the reports and will soon initiate the next phase of planning and approvals. Initially, metro routes were proposed to be around 20 km per city, but after receiving public feedback, the routes have been extended.
Meanwhile, work on Patna Metro (32 km, 24 stations) is progressing rapidly. The expansion of metro services across Bihar is expected to significantly improve urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and provide a modern and efficient transport system.
