Bihar Political Crisis: At the meeting of RJD's legislative party amidst the political crisis unfolding in Bihar over speculations of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party, the JD(U), abandoning its leaving the state's ruling alliance to return to the BJP-led NDA, Bihar Deputy CM and RJD MLA Tejashwi Yadav told party leaders that the CM "was and is respectable", sources cited by news agency ANI said.

He made the statement as the RJD-JD(U) 'Mahagathbandhan' government of Bihar faces the risk of a collapse due to Nitish Kumar's purported plans to join hands with the BJP. "Many things are not under his (Nitish Kumar) control. RJD's allies in the 'Mahagathbandhan' always respected the Chief Minister," Tejashwi was quoted as saying by ANI's sources.

The RJD scion also reportedly used a Bengali-Hindi variation of the TMC's slogan that rose to popularity during and after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections -- in which the BJP faced defeat -- insinuating that his party has not given up on hopes of continuing to be a part of the ruling dispensation in Bihar.

"The Chief Minister used to sit with me on the stage and ask, 'What was there in Bihar before 2005?' I never reacted... Now, more people are with us. The work that was not done in two decades, we have done in a short time, be it jobs, caste census, increasing reservation, etc. Bihar mein abhi khel hona baki hain."

Earlier in the day, the Congress party said that its chief, Mallikarjun Kharge tried contacting Nitish Kumar several times, but ended up being unsuccessful every single time in establishing contact amid the ongoing political uncertainty in Bihar.  "I can formally say that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge tried to talk to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar not just once, but several times. However, the Bihar CM is busy," Congress Spokesperson Jairam Ramesh stated.

Both the RJD and the JD(U) are currently part of the anti-BJP INDIA bloc. The speculations of the JD(U)'s probable departure from the mega opposition alliance have brought all major parties of the bloc, including the Congress, to their toes. "I don't have any information on JDU moving out of the INDIA alliance. What they have in mind is not clear. I am traveling to Dehradun tomorrow, then to Delhi. I will get the full information and then I will brief you. Let us see what will happen," Kharge said today.

The Congress President added, "Our effort is to unite everyone. I have spoken with Mamata Banerjee, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Sitaram Yechury. If we unite, we will give a good fight, and the INDIA alliance will be a success. Those who are interested in saving democracy will not change their minds and will stay with us."
