Bihar: A Class 9 student from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, found himself staring at a bank balance of Rs 87.65 crore, only for it to disappear within five hours. The shocking incident took place when Saif Ali, a student from Chandan Patti in Sakra block, Bihar visited a local cyber cafe to withdraw Rs 500 for personal work.

Saif Ali who is just a mere Class 9 student was visiting a local cyber cafe for some personal work when he decided to withdraw Rs 500 from his bank account. However, what he saw on the screen left him stunned. Instead of a modest balance, the saving account displayed a staggering amount of Rs 87.65 crore.

Both Saif and the cyber cafe owner were initially shocked and assumed it might be a mistake. To be sure, they checked the account balance again, but the amount remained unchanged. Surprised by the situation, Saif immediately went home and shared the news with his mother.

Unable to understand what had happened, Saif’s mother informed a local boy in their village about the unexpected windfall. The boy, who went to the Customer Service Point (CSP) for a bank statement, discovered that the Rs 87.65 crore balance was no longer there. The statement now reflected the correct balance of just Rs 532, and the account was subsequently frozen by that time.

The bizarre incident lasted only five hours, during which time Saif unknowingly had access to a fortune, which mysteriously vanished. When Saif and his family visited the bank to report the issue, they confirmed that the enormous sum had disappeared from the account, and the balance had returned to normal.

Following the incident, the North Bihar Gramin Bank launched an internal investigation to determine how such a large sum of money was mistakenly credited to Saif’s account. However, the bank’s officials have not yet provided a clear explanation of how the error occurred or who might have been behind it.

Cyber DSP Seema Devi said that incidents like these, involving the misappropriation of funds are mostly through cyber fraud and certainly were not uncommon. It is suspected that fraudsters might have exploited the student’s account for some time, leading to the false credit. However, neither Saif nor his family have formally lodged a complaint with the cyber police station, reported News18.
