The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday referred to the killing of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the recent assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump and accused the Congress of often using remarks, that incite violence, against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sudhanshu Trivedi, the spokesperson of the BJP, said that the usage of words like 'maut' and 'hinsa' should be avoided.

Sudhanshu Trivedi stressed an ex-IPS officer's write-up to underline that language employed for short-term political benefits might sometimes instigate violence. Launching a scathing attack at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the BJP leader said that Gandhi used words like violence and murder in Parliament and had rationalised as throwing some article at Modi's convoy during the poll campaign as evidence of people's fear of the prime minister ending.

"Violent words like ‘death’ and ‘digging a grave’ have been used in the speeches of Congress leaders. Politics is one thing and inciting violence is another," saidTrivedi while addressing a press conference.

PM Modi's security was endangered in Punjab when the Congress ruled the state, he said, contrasting this with the security provided to Rahul Gandhi in sensitive places like Kashmir and Manipur.

Someone who spoke of cutting Modi into pieces is a Congress MP now, and it was the Congress leader Sonia Gandhi who had used "maut ka saudagar" barb against him in 2007 when he was chief minister of Gujarat, he said.

Trivedi stated that Gandhi, as the Leader of the Opposition, must demonstrate maturity in his statements and that anyone who does not do so is unfit for politics.

Trivedi referred to the Ishrat Jahan case, saying the CBI, which reports to the central government, changed its first affidavit that called her a terrorist for political reasons as she was targeting Modi. She along with her accomplishes were killed in an encounter.

He further asserted that the BJP government considers the security of political leaders to be a top priority. "When Rahul Gandhi visited Kashmir and Manipur, the routes were sanitized and his security was taken care of," said Trivedi.
