The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday disassociated itself from the controversial remarks made by party MP Nishikant Dubey and leader Dinesh Sharma regarding the judiciary and the Chief Justice of India. BJP president JP Nadda clarified that these were personal views of the individuals and not representative of the party's ideology.
JP Nadda stated that the BJP neither agrees with nor supports such statements. ''It is their comment, and the party rejects it,'' he said on X. He further directed both leaders and all party members to refrain from making such comments.
In his statement, Nadda underscored the party’s unwavering respect for the judiciary, calling it a strong pillar of democracy and the Constitution. ''The BJP has always respected the judiciary, wholeheartedly accepting its orders and suggestions,'' he said. Nadda also added that the Supreme Court and other courts play an essential role in upholding democratic principles in the country.

Earlier in the day, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey sparked controversy by blaming Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna for alleged “civil wars” in the country. Dubey accused the Supreme Court of steering the country towards “anarchy” and questioned the court’s directions to constitutional authorities. He alleged the court was overstepping its boundaries by interfering with the President’s powers and legislative functions of Parliament.
He also claimed the judiciary was inciting ''religious wars'' adding that the Parliament and state assemblies should be shut down if the Supreme Court continues to make laws. ''The top court has only one aim—‘Show me the face, will show you the law’,'' Dubey said, accusing the court of acting beyond its limits.

Congress leaders condemned Dubey’s comments, calling them defamatory and undemocratic. MP Manickam Tagore said Dubey was known for undermining institutions and hoped the Supreme Court would take note since the comments were made outside Parliament. Congress MP Imran Masood termed the statements “unfortunate” and attributed them to the government's frustration with unfavourable rulings.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also expressed discontent with a recent Supreme Court judgment that set a timeline for the President to act on pending bills. On April 17, during an event in Parliament, he criticised the judiciary for issuing directions to the President and suggested an amendment to Article 145(3), which deals with constitutional bench composition. He described Article 142 as a “nuclear missile” being misused against democratic institutions.
