Amid ongoing violence in the state of West Bengal over the Waqf Bill Act, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday appealed for peace in the state. She has also released a letter in which she targeted the BJP and its allies of setting 'false campaign' in Bengal.
In the letter she wrote, "BJP and its allies have suddenly become very aggressive in West Bengal. These allies include RSS. I have not taken the RSS's name earlier, but I am being forced now to identify them. Together, they all have initiated a vicious false campaign in the State..."
She added that 'certain forces' are using the backdrop of a tragic occurrence, which was caused by provocation, to fuel divisive politics. A 'divide and rule' policy is being used, which is quite disturbing.

Banerjee responded to the situation by appealing for peace in the state. She said, "I love my country, I love my State, I love my grassroots from the district to the block and the village level - and that is how I love all. It is this love that makes me write this appeal."
"My appeal is: please remain calm. We condemn communal riots and must curb them. The criminals behind the riots are being strongly dealt with. But, simultaneously, we must avoid mutual mistrust and distrust. The majority and the minority communities must work together and take care of each other," the letter further said.
The Trinamool Congress chief's remark came hours after Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose lambasted her government's "handling" of violence, calling the situation on the ground "bizarre and barbaric".
Also, Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in Bengal, said that the TMC administration was failing to try to stop the violence.
