Any 20 members of a state's electoral college may jointly propose for the post of National President a person who has been an active member of the party for four terms and has completed 15 years of membership. However, such a joint proposal must come from at least five states where elections to the National Council have already been held.

Who is Nitin Nabin?

Nitin Nabin is set to become the 11th national president of the BJP. Significantly, he will also be the youngest national president in the party's history.

This confluence of age, organisational experience and political balance is being considered the beginning of a new era for the BJP leadership.

45-year-old Nabin is the son of the late BJP leader and former MLA Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha. He has proven himself at all three levels, from student politics to the organization and government. He has been elected MLA from the Bankipur assembly constituency five times in a row, a testament to his strong support base.
