The Supreme Court verdict on multiple pleas challenging the abrogation of special provisions given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 drew mixed reactions from political spheres.  The BJP welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict while former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and other parties of the state expressed their disappointment over the judgement. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders of  BJP including National President JP Nadda welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict while stating that it is a resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. 

Shiv Sena (UBT) also welcomed the decision, “We welcome this decision because we supported the removal of Article 370. We hope the J&K elections will be held at the earliest,’’ Uddhav Thackery said. 

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and AIMIM stated that they are disappointed with the SC’s verdict on Article 370. Former chief minister Omar Abdullah said that he and his party will continue the struggle for the future of the state while AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed his disappointment.  

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Maharaja Hari Singh’s son Karan Singh welcomed the Supreme Court’s judgment and requested the Centre to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. "I welcome it. Now it has become clear that whatever happened is constitutionally valid. I request PM Modi to restore statehood soon,'' he said as quoted by news agency ANI. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Supreme Court verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 was historic and it constitutionally upheld the decision taken by the Parliament of India on 5th August 2019.

"It is a resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity for our sisters and brothers in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The Court, in its profound wisdom, has fortified the very essence of unity that we, as Indians, hold dear and cherish above all else," PM Modi said.
