Blood Moon 2025: The total lunar eclipse, a rare celestial event, is expected to be visible to people from 11 pm on September 7-8. The phenomenon is expected to be seen in many parts of the world. During this eclipse, the moon will have a reddish hue, and thus tonight’s event has also been termed as ‘Blood Moon’.

“The eclipse will peak at 11.48 pm and last for 48 minutes. People can watch it easily. It will not harm the eyes. You can even eat and drink during it. This eclipse cannot only be seen in India but also in Pakistan and China. In Delhi, the penumbral phase (initial phase) will start at 8.58 pm. The partial eclipse will begin at around 9.57 pm,” according to Nehru Planetorium Engineer O.P. Gupta, quoted by ANI.

What Is Lunar Eclipse?

A lunar eclipse is a geographical phenomenon where the Earth comes directly between the sun and the moon, thereby casting its shadow on the surface of the moon.

What Is A Blood Moon?

The Blood Moon phenomenon occurs during a total lunar eclipse when the moon enters the inner part of the Earth’s shadow, known as the umbra. Some of the sunlight escapes the darkness cast by Earth’s shadow and is able to reach the surface of the moon, giving a tint of yellow and shades of red. The colour that the moon acquires as a result of this geographical alignment is referred to as Blood Moon. 

How To Watch The Blood 2025 LIVE?

The blood moon will be visible to the naked eye in Asia, Australia, and Europe. Skywatchers need not use any special glasses or equipment to witness the celestial spectacle. 

The viewing times for the Blood Moon 2025 will vary across different time zones and regions. According to reports, 77 per cent of the people from around the world will be able to view the Blood Moon 2025 in various regions. 

Across the time zone, the timings of the Blood Moon are as follows:

  • Mumbai (IST): 11:00 pm-12:22 am

  • Bangkok (ICT): 12:30-1:52 am

  • Beijing (CST), Hong Kong (HKT), and Perth (AWST): 1:30-2:52 am

  • Tokyo (JST): 2:30-3:52 am
  • Sydney (AEST): 3:30-4:52 am

  • London (BST): 7:30 and 7:52 pm

  • Paris (CEST) and Cape Town (SAST): 7:30 to 8:52 pm 

  • Istanbul, Cairo, and Nairobi (EEST/EAT): 8:30 to 9:52 pm

  • Tehran (IRST): 9:00 to 10:22 pm

People in Asia and Australia will have the best view of the Blood Moon as the moon will be directly overhead during the peak period of totality, giving opportunity for photographers. For the people who are watching the blood moon in Africa and Europe, the totality can be viewed during the moonrise, offering stunning views of the horizon.
