Blood Moon: The lunar eclipse begun its dramatic ascent in the sky at 8:58 pm and completed the total phase of the Blood Moon Phase at 12:23 pm. Millions of skywatchers gazed and captured the rare celestial event that marked the longest lunar eclipse since 2022.
During the eclipse, the Earth occupied a position in a straight line between the Moon and the Sun. The blood moon, as the moon turns into deep red hues, was visible for 82 minutes, giving skywatchers plenty of time to enjoy the rare sight.
The eclipse started at 8:58 pm. According to Nehru Planetorium Engineer O.P. Gupta, the partial eclipse started at around 9:57 pm.
The blood moon peak to the total lunar eclipse at 11:48 pm and lasted for 48 minutes. The space scientist Dr Suvendu Patnaik has informed that the next total lunar eclipse will occur next year, on March 3, 2026.

OP Gupta has clarified that people can watch the eclipse and that there will be no harm to the eyes, contrary to a common misconception.

-Total eclipse will end around 12:23 AM, September 8

Speaking about the reference of Blood Moon, Jawaharlal Nehru planitorium, Director B R Guruprasad said, "Whenever there is a total lunar eclipse which is visible, it is always referred to, by and large it is referred to as blood moon because the moon appears as coppery red, mixture of copper, color of copper and red color or orange color. That is the reason it is popularly dubbed as blood moon..."
