Lunar Eclipse 2025: A rare celestial event unfolded tonight as a total lunar eclipse, also referred to as a Blood Moon, which painted the Moon in shades of deep red and orange. The breathtaking phenomenon was visible across India and several parts of Asia, Western Australia and Europe, captivating skywatchers for over an hour.
The penumbral phase of the lunar eclipse began at 8:58 PM on September 7, with the total lunar eclipse reaching its peak at 11:48 PM. During the total lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth and Moon align in a straight line with the Earth blocking the sunlight from reaching the Moon, casting a shadow over the lunar surface.
The total lunar eclipse will last for 82 minutes, making it one longest lunar eclipses since 2022. The total eclipse will end at 12:22 AM on September 8, and the entire celestial event will end at 2:25 AM. Major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata were among the best locations to witness the Blood Moon.
The residents of Delhi witnessed the rare celestial event as the Blood Moon lit up the night sky during the total phase of the lunar eclipse.

Video from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, showcased the mesmerising red ‘Blood Moon’ during the peak phase of the Lunar eclipse. As the event progressed, the moon gradually moved towards the exit phase.

The eclipse was visible across much of Asia and Western Australia, with parts of several other countries also catching a glimpse of the rare celestial event.
