The Peel Regional Police in Canada have made a new arrest in connection with the recent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton. Inderjeet Gosal, 35, was apprehended on charges of assault and wielding a weapon during last week’s unrest. Notably, a group of Khalistan sympathisers disrupted a consular event attended by Indian officials at Brampton's Hindu Mandir.

According to a statement from the Peel Regional Police, Gosal was released under certain conditions and is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, as reported by News 18.

Gosal is Sikhs for Justice coordinator for Canada, Toronto Star reported. The US-based SFJ is banned in India.

A widely circulated video on social media shows the assailants wielding sticks and attacking Hindu worshippers while raising slogans and carrying flags linked to the Khalistan movement in Brampton. Similar disturbances were observed at consular camps in Surrey and Vancouver.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau strongly condemned the incident, asserting that Sikh and Hindu communities in Canada shouldn’t be held responsible for the unrest.

“The violence we have seen in South Asian communities across the country over the past few nights, let me be very clear. The individuals who are inciting violence and division and hatred in no way represent either the Sikh community or the Hindu community in Canada,” Trudeau said while addressing the House of Commons.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into Canadian leadership over the incident, asking them to ensure justice in the case. "I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law," the PM posted on X.
