A BSF personnel was injured in an incident of unprovoked firing from Pakistan’s side along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor area of Jammu district on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported citing an official. The BSF troops also retaliated to the firing and have been put on high alert to respond to any further misadventure.

"On 11 September at about 02:35 am, an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border happened which was befittingly responded to by the BSF. One BSF personnel sustained injuries in Pak firing; Troops are on high alert," said PRO BSF Jammu.

The injured jawan was admitted to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

The incident came a day after the Indian Army killed two terrorists while they were trying to infiltrate the Indian territory on Jammu and Kashmir’s Naushera. A large cache of weapons was recovered from the terrorists, including two AK-47 rifles and a pistol.

“OP KANCHI. Based on inputs from intelligence agencies and @JmuKmrPolice regarding a likely inflitration bid, an anti-infiltration operation was launched by #IndianArmy on the intervening night of 08-09 Sep 24 in general area Lam, #Nowshera,” the Army's White Knight Corps posted on X.

On August 29, the Indian Army successfully neutralised three terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machhal and Tangdhar Sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

Security in Jammu and Kashmir has been tightened since the Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule of Assembly Election in the Union Territory. This marks the first time that residents of J-K will vote since Article 370 was revoked, and the former state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two Union Territories, J-K and Ladakh.
