The Union Budget 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday has allocated Rs 2,19,643.31 crore to the Ministry of Home Affairs. A significant portion of this budget, Rs 1,43,275.90 crore, is designated for central police forces such as the CRPF, BSF, and CISF, which are crucial for internal security, border protection, and securing vital installations.
In the interim budget for 2024-25, Amit Shah-led Ministry of Home Affairs was allocated Rs 2,02,868.70 crore.
A sum of Rs 42,277.74 crore has been made to Jammu and Kashmir, which is under direct central government control following the abrogation of Article 370. This allocation aims to support various developmental and security-related initiatives in the region.

Budget Allocation for Paramilitary Forces
CRPF: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) received Rs 31,543.20 crore, up from the revised estimate of Rs 31,389.04 crore in 2023-24. The CRPF is primarily involved in internal security, anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, counter-Naxal operations, and dealing with insurgencies in the Northeast.
BSF: The Border Security Force (BSF) was allocated Rs 25,472.44 crore, an increase from Rs 25,038.68 crore in the previous year. The BSF is responsible for guarding India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh and also participates in internal security duties.
CISF: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) received Rs 14,331.89 crore, up from Rs 12,929.85 crore in 2023-24. The CISF safeguards critical infrastructure, including nuclear plants, airports, and metro networks.
ITBP: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was granted Rs 8,634.21 crore, compared to Rs 8,203.68 crore in 2023-24. The ITBP guards the India-China border.
SSB: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) got Rs 8,881.81 crore, up from Rs 8,435.68 crore the previous year. The SSB guards India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
Assam Rifles: The Assam Rifles was allotted Rs 7,428.33 crore, an increase from Rs 7,276.29 crore in 2023-24. The Assam Rifles protects India's border with Myanmar.
Allocations to Intelligence and Police Agencies
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) was allocated Rs 3,823.83 crore, an increase from Rs 3,268.94 crore in 2023-24. The Delhi Police received Rs 11,180.33 crore, and the Special Protection Group (SPG) was given Rs 506.32 crore.

Various central sector projects and schemes sponsored by the home ministry received Rs 9,305.43 crore, while Rs 3,199.62 crore was allocated for security-related expenditures. The Vibrant Villages Programme received Rs 1,050 crore and the Safe City Project was allotted Rs 214.44 crore. The National Forensic Science University got Rs 80 crore and the Rashtriya Raksha University received Rs 90 crore.
