By-polls Election: Apart from Bihar, bye-elections are being conducted across eight Assembly constituencies in six states and one Union Territory. These include Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatsila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram and Nuapada in Odisha.
Voting for the by-elections on these eight Assembly seats across six states has begun. The results will be declared on November 14, along with the Bihar Assembly election results.
By-polls in Jammu & Kashmir’s Budgam and Nagrota
In Jammu and Kashmir, the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly seats have remained vacant since October 2024. CM Omar Abdullah had won both seats but retained Ganderbal on October 21, 2024, vacating Budgam and triggering the bypoll.
Meanwhile, the Nagrota seat became vacant on October 31, 2024, following the death of BJP MLA Devendra Singh Rana.
Officials have identified 226 polling stations as "critical" out of a total of 407. In Nagrota, Assistant Returning Officer Sumit Kohli stated that 150 polling booths have been set up in the constituency and appealed to voters to come out in large numbers. He added that voting will continue until 6 pm, with 97,379 voters expected to cast their votes.
Jubilee Hills Assembly By-polls
Over 4.01 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes to decide the fate of 58 candidates in Jubilee Hills. The By-pollwas necessitated by the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June this year.
The contest is triangular among the ruling Congress, BJP, and BRS.
Dampa Assembly By-polls in Mizoram
Voting for the Dampa Assembly By-pollin Mizoram’s Mamit district began on Tuesday under tight security. Polling, which started at 7 am, will continue until 4 pm across 41 booths in the constituency bordering Bangladesh and Tripura.
The ruling ZPM has fielded Mizo singer and preacher Vanlalsailova, while the opposition MNF has nominated its senior vice-president R. Lalthangliana. The Congress has fielded party vice-president John Rotluangliana, and the BJP has nominated Lalhmingthanga.
The By-pollwas necessitated by the death of MNF legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo.

Ghatsila Assembly By-polls in Jharkhand
Polling for the Ghatsila Assembly By-pollin Jharkhand began at 7 am on Tuesday under tight security, an official said. Voting will continue until 5 pm
Over 2.56 lakh voters, including 1.31 lakh women, are eligible to exercise their franchise and decide the fate of 13 candidates. The key contest is likely between Somesh Chandra Soren of the ruling JMM and BJP’s Babulal Soren, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren. Somesh Chandra is the son of late JMM MLA Ramdas Soren, whose death led to the bypoll.
Nuapada Assembly By-polls in Odisha
Voting began for the Nuapada Assembly By-pollin Odisha at 7 am on Tuesday amid tight security, officials said. Polling will continue till 5 pm in 311 booths and till 4 pm in 47 sensitive booths located in Left Wing Extremist-affected areas.
Among the 14 candidates, the key contenders are BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria, BJP’s Jay Dholakia, Congress’ Ghasiram Majhi, and Samajwadi Party’s Ramakanta Hati. The By-pollwas necessitated following the death of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8. The BJP candidate is the deceased MLA’s son.
Tarn Taran Assembly By-polls in Punjab
Polling for the high-stakes Tarn Taran Assembly By-pollin Punjab began Tuesday morning under heavy security. Voting started at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, officials confirmed.
The counting of votes will take place on November 14. The Tarn Taran seat fell vacant after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.
The By-pollhas turned into a multi-cornered contest, viewed as a crucial prelude to the 2027 Assembly elections in Punjab. Campaigning ended on Sunday evening, with 15 candidates in the fray.
Rajasthan’s Anta Assembly Bypolls: 15 Candidates in Fray
Voting is underway for the Anta Assembly by-election in Rajasthan’s Baran district. The seat fell vacant after BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena lost his membership following a court sentence in a 20-year-old case. The Election Commission has set up 268 polling booths for 2,27,563 voters.
