Canada Dream Turns Tragic As Punjab Youth Ends Life After Multiple Visa Rejections

A Punjab youth died by suicide after being denied a Canada visa in Punjab’s Barnala. 20-year-old Dalpreet Singh, a resident of Sukhpura Village, allegedly shot himself dead over repeated rejection of his visa file, Jagran.com reported.

Inspector Gurmandar Singh, in charge of Shehana police station, stated that on Sunday morning, Dalpreet Singh, son of Ajaib Singh, shot himself with his uncle’s licensed rifle inside his room at home.

He was the only son in the family and he was planning to go to Canada after completing his studies.

Dalpreet’s sister is already settled in Canada and his obsession with visiting the country prompted him to take the extreme step.

The Shehana police have started investigating the incident. Based on the statements from the deceased’s family members, the police conducted the postmortem under Section 174 of the CrPC and handed over the body to the relatives.

Earlier in 2024, a man ended his life after jumping from the fourth floor of a residential tower in Mohali. Simranjit Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, had come to his friend’s house in Kharar. Singh was unemployed and reported in stress as his visa was rejected twice, The Tribune reported.
