The Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee that is hearing the alleged ‘cash for query’ case involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra will meet on November 7, to consider and adopt its draft report. The 15-member committee, comprising BJP members in majority is likely to take a grim view of Moitra's conduct. 

The last hearing concluded on Thursday in a walk-out by the TMC MP and her opposition colleagues who were part of the panel. Moitra accused the parliamentary panel’s chairperson Vinod Kumar Sonkar of asking filthy and personal questions to her in the last meeting. However, Sonkar denied the charges and accused Moitra of non-cooperation.

The hearing was held in response to a complaint filed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey who alleged that Moitra accepted cash from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament on his behalf to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group.

What Are The Allegations Against Mahua Moitra? 

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for bribes. The BJP MP also alleged that Moitra took cash and gifts from the businessman to ask questions in Parliament.

Later, Hiranandani on Thursday confirmed the charges levelled against the TMC MP in the “cash for query” row. He claimed that the TMC leader targeted Gautam Adani to “malign and embarrass" Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also submitted an affidavit to the ethics committee and claimed that Moitra accepted bribes in the form of expensive gifts. 

TMC MP Denies Charges

However, the TMC MP denied the charges levelled against her and said that  Hiranandani used her login credentials, but rejected any pecuniary considerations, claiming that most MPs share their login information with others. Earlier, Moitra claimed that she had been targeted for raising favouritism to the Adani group and referring to her claim about Dubey's educational qualifications.
